BC Custom Car Association
To the best of our knowledge the B.C.C.C.A is the oldest rod & custom car club in Canada. Originally formed in the late 1951, many names for the club were tossed around such as the B.C. Hot Rod Association and the Vancouver Hot Rod Association. However, as negative connotations then surrounded the words “Hot Rods”, the B.C. Custom Car Association was chosen as a more appropriate name. On January 25, 1952 the club held it’s first “official” meeting and elected Bob Scott as President, Charlie (Chuck) Robinson as Vice President and Bob Phinney as Secretary / Treasurer.
Seventy years ago today, on January 25th, 1952 a small group of custom car enthusiasts held their very first official meeting for the first time. It was at this time that president Bob Scott was elected, along with Chuck Robinson (Vice president), Bob Phinney (Secretary/Treasurer).
Within a two year span, this club grew to over 300 members, with more than 200 hot rods and 11 drag racing vehicles which sparked the need for a drag racing facility in the lower mainland of BC.
BCCCA held its first organized drag race at the Abbotsford Airport YXX, BC in 1952, with races continuing until 1957 when the Royal Canadian Air Force took over the facility. In this time the club banked every dollar they made from the facility to build their permanent racing facility, Mission Raceway Park.
We are so proud to represent this club of enthusiasts at Mission Raceway Park, with third and fourth family generations now we can only hope to keep building on the foundation that was designed for people to safely enjoy all kinds of Motorsport. We also want to thank the city that has let us call home since the first property was purchased in 1959.
Please mark your calendar for August 27, 2022 when we will celebrate this milestone with the BCCCA members at the Historic Hot Rod Reunion of BC!
